Listing LBC on DCRDEX / Bison Wallet

`I first posted this in the LBRY Discord server`

**
I will tell you a bit more about DCRDEX / Bison Wallet and the possible role that LBC could play in it.**
This all started with me opening an issue on the DCRDEX Github on the date Sep 26, 2025: https://github.com/decred/dcrdex/issues/3352

DCRDEX

DCRDEX is a decentralized exchange protocol that utilizes Atomic Swaps, created by the Decred (DCR) developers. It’s the backend of Bison Wallet, and is under constant development. Note that it is a work in progress, and they are still addressing issues of friction points with new users. DCRDEX is more complicated to use than a traditional CEX like MEXC. Decred Decred is a blockchain that was created around the same time as LBRY, so it’s a old school project. The founders were even a part of building on Bitcoin, but were facing hostility when discussing change and offered development. They saw that Bitcoin had a governance problem, so then they created Decred. They have a solid governance system and a decentralized treasury which has funded several features of their cryptocurrency. Their goal is complete autonomy and decentralization, and protection against attacks. They seek to create a coin that is independent from state intervention. I have been following them nearly since inception. More info about Decred can be seen here —> decred.org

Bison Wallet - the frontend

DCRDEX protocol is used in a new type of multi-wallet called “Bison Wallet”, which can be downloaded here: https://bisonwallet.org/

(newest version is on github: https://github.com/decred/dcrdex/releases/tag/v1.0.5) (Supported on Windows/Mac/Linux.)

How does DCRDEX work?

DCRDEX is a protocol that lets you run blockchain nodes locally, and trade between them. There is also support for a lightweight SPV functionality so that you don’t have to download the blockchain blocks, just like Electrum wallet works. We should create SPV functionality for LBC too, or do we have it available already? @Ben

The role of the DCRDEX Server Operator - and the upcoming Tatanka Mesh

In DCRDEX there is a Server Operator that decides which coins to list, keeps order books, receives orders from users, penalizes bad actors, or rewards good actors through a reputation system. “Anyone” with technical know-how can be a Server Operator and list their coins of choice, but for simplicity’s sake, it is probably easier to get LBC listed on a server that is already created, as long as the LBC community can guarantee liquidity. The DCRDEX Server Operator is the only centralized aspect of DCRDEX. However, the Decred developers are currently developing something called Tatanka Mesh which is a decentralized p2p protocol that will eliminate the need for the DCRDEX Server Operator completely.

Upcoming changes to DCRDEX / Bison Wallet

You can read the newest proposal on Decred’s governance platform called Politeia here: https://proposals.decred.org/record/4e047a0 https://proposals.decred.org/record/5f61e23 These proposals are fresh and are only about 1 week old, and are currently still in discussion.

What needs to be done to get LBC listed on DCRDEX / Bison Wallet?

  • Needs development & testing to enable support for LBC. JoeGruff from the Decred community has said he is willing to do all that work for $2,000. No promises have been made, but if we’re lucky, we might be able to start next month (April).

  • Needs a guarantee of liquidity and trading volume from the LBC community to impress the current DCRDEX Server Operator to actually list LBC. This part is important, otherwise we would have to become Server Operators ourselves.

  • Needs support from the majority of the LBC community, and preferably also public support through our public channels. We should talk about DCRDEX and Bison Wallet on Twitter/X, and in our chats.

Current status of DCRDEX / Bison Wallet

DCRDEX / Bison Wallet is primarily used by Decred holders to trade between DCR, USDC and BTC. It is not well known in the general crypto space, and has zero marketing. They have been developing DCRDEX for about 5 years, and is still in the early stages when it comes to adoption. It is not listed on Coingecko or CoinMarketCap. There are some friction points with new users, because it is a bit more complicated to use, and requires depositing “bonds” to start trading. The bonds are a security measure, but stops many people who just want to try it for the first time.

What role could DCRDEX / Bison Wallet play for LBC? (My personal optimistic opinions)

Now that LBC is listed on MEXC as “withdraw-only” and “tradeable-only” with possibly delisting. Now that LBC is listed on Komodo DEX, but Komodo was sold to an entity called Gleec, and is “Unavailable for Trading in your location”. I believe the LBC community is tired of relying on centralized entities and government regulations. And I believe we are ready for a DEX that truly is decentralized and independent. Bison Wallet could be the #1 place to do LBC trading.

What role could LBC play for DCRDEX / Bison Wallet? (My personal optimistic opinions)

Now that the fatigue from the lawsuit between the SEC and LBRY Inc. is over. Now that the SEC has publicly classified LBC as a digital commodity and not as a security. I believe LBRY is poised for a new bullish period, with potentially hundreds of thousands of users who needs to reawaken. If LBC becomes tradeable on DCRDEX with sufficient liquidity, trading volume, and a full bullish market cycle, it could help DCRDEX / Bison Wallet with free marketing, as thousands of investors would try Bison Wallet just to trade LBC.

Which people from the LBRY Community will fund the development to get LBC listed on DCRDEX?

@timmik7574 @OwnControl @neofutur @jans @Dread Epsilon (:ear_of_corn:Mafia) @rouse plus one anonymous donor has expressed willingness to help fund the development cost of $2,000. Please contact me if you want to contribute!

LBRY Foundation’s role

@Ben has already provided technical support on Github (https://github.com/decred/dcrdex/pull/3358), and @AQ has introduced himself in the Decred chat and given information. They can elaborate further if needed.

If LBC gets listed on DCRDEX - which pairs will we list?

We have thought about the pair which would provide the least on-boarding friction, and I have proposed this:

1st priority: LBC-DCR Since the main users of DCRDEX are DCR holders, this pairing demonstrates our good faith toward their project. On top of that, we share a peg with an up-and-coming cryptocurrency.

2nd priority: LBC-USDC (polygon) Due to the fast trading settlement speeds of Polygon, and the low lot size of USDC, it’s a great second choice.

3rd priority: LBC-BTC Due to the stability of BTC, its high liquidity, and its status as the most recognized cryptocurrency, it provides a reliable and secure trading pair.

QUESTION FOR THE LBRY COMMUNITY Would you trade and/or provide liquidity to Bison Wallet / DCRDEX?

The “LBRY Hub” is a SPV wallet server on port 50001.
